A Little Monkey
An excerpt from the Broken Bulbs screenplay.
EXT. SIDE OF THE ROAD - NIGHT Frank is up in a tree, just above the MAN'S BODY. He's vigorously shaking the branches, trying to get the body free. Bonnie stands at the bottom looking up at him. BONNIE Shake him, Frank! He's gotta come loose eventually! FRANK I'm trying! Frank angrily shakes the branches. FRANK (to the body) Come on, ya fucker! BONNIE Let's go! I wanna loose this stiff so we can get some chow. FRANK (frustrated) Bonnie, I'm trying to get him down! He shakes harder. BONNIE My stomach is growling! It's talking to me, Frank! FRANK (very annoyed) Bonnie-- BONNIE Ya know, you look kinda cute up in that tree. Like a little monkey. Frank stops shaking the branches and looks down to her. FRANK Really? BONNIE You bet. I wish you had adorable little overalls...and a cigar...and a tricycle...though that would be pretty hard to ride in a tree. He smiles. FRANK Thanks. I guess. BONNIE Don't mention it, kiddo. Beat. They share a smile. BONNIE Now shake his dead ass outta that tree and feed me, Seymour! Frank starts shaking again. Bonnie watches him for a beat. BONNIE (seriously) Frank? FRANK What. BONNIE I wanna ask you something. Frank continues working. FRANK What is it? BONNIE You know the Dusty thing? The screenplay? FRANK Yeah. BONNIE How close are you to being done? FRANK I got no idea. Why? BONNIE Well, I kinda need to tell y-- SNAP! The branches break and Frank and the body fall to the ground, hard.
Frank MOANS. Bonnie BURSTS into LAUGHTER. FRANK (in pain) Oh, my ribs! Bonnie is doubled over. She can hardly breathe from laughing so hard. BONNIE Oh my God! I loved that so much! Frank rolls on the ground in agony.
